To My Chuckwalla Family
To my Chuckwalla Family,
I just want to say how proud I am of each and every one of you. Some of you have just started (like, literally today was your first day), some of you have been coming since the grand opening day, some of you have been there since we started in my single car garage, and even some of you have been doing this CrossFit thing long before Chuckwalla was even a thought. To each of you, no matter what stage you are in, I am very impressed. I feel like I need to explain this further because maybe you’re thinking I’m full of it. But no, I’m not just saying it to make you feel good. I am saying it because I mean it and I believe it.
Let me explain further…
When many people first come in to the gym, they are often not too sure of themselves. Maybe CrossFit seemed intimidating and hard, and I know for a lot of you it was overwhelming at first (or maybe that’s you right now). But you stuck with it and took on the challenge anyway. You continue to take on the challenge and you’re getting better each day because of it. I am proud because it doesn’t matter where you finish on the leaderboard, but it does matter how well you step up to face your challenges and fears. I am not as impressed by the number of rounds you got or the time you finished your WOD in or how much you can lift (although those things are impressive). I am most impressed by your attitude and commitment to giving it your all. This is the most impressive thing I see in so many of you. To come to class even when you don’t feel like it. To try something new even though it’s scary. To challenge yourself beyond what you thought you were able. These things matter. They don’t only matter in the gym, but they carry over to every aspect of our lives. We all have many different things going on in our personal lives I know. I talk to a lot of you and I see your pains, struggles, insecurities, hopes, dreams, and the like. Nothing is ever perfect nor will it be, but the choice you make today to be better, to become the best version of yourself - now that’s priceless. That’s what life is all about.
Moving forward, getting better, helping each other, loving one another despite our differences and levels of ability. Choosing each day to push on and move forward is what is most courageous. And I see it in you each day. I know you may not feel like it every day, but you keep showing up. You keep making the choice to become better. That’s what I am proud of. So next time I give you a high five at the gym and say good job. Know that I mean it. Know that I see something in you that is great even if you don’t see it yourself. Please know that I am here to help you along the way too. We are all a work in progress. Just don’t forget that you are progressing even when it doesn’t seem like it. Don’t ever compare yourself to others and put yourself down. Instead, look at yourself and see how you can get better. See how you can be the best version of yourself. Your future-self will thank you for the small but courageous decisions you make today.
Thank you for your time.
I look forward to another brutal workout with you all.
