Here is his story:

This week we are following up with an older member, coach and previous Member Crush, Joe Makston. Here is what he has to say about his time at Chuckwalla since when he first started:

How long have you been at Chuckwalla CrossFit?

Since week one in John’s garage. I'm proud to be the first member of Chuckwalla!

What got you started and why do you keep showing up?

It's actually the same reason, the community. We are a strong mix of families, cultures, and lifestyles. I'm so grateful for the friendships that have come out of the gym.

What makes you choose this kind of gym over other gym franchises or other forms of fitness?

I like the fact that I can walk in any day and the workout is going to be a challenge- mentally and physically. I thrive when I'm doing something alongside someone. Whether it's competing against or encouraging each other, it keeps me going.

How has Chuckwalla CrossFit impacted your life?

Chuckwalla has helped me see myself as an athlete. Prior to doing CrossFit, this is something I would have never called myself. Now I can do things I never even tried to imagine. It's pretty awesome once you've figured out a new skill and realize all your hard work paid off.

How do you apply what happens inside the gym to everyday life outside of our box?

Life is just like going to the gym; stop going and you'll lose your muscle memory, making it more difficult to get back into it. Going to the gym reminds me that if you do the work you'll get the results. If I show up half-hearted, that what I'll get out of it. Same goes for when I give it my all.
