Even during a health crisis and quarantine, it's important to prioritize the basics of healthy eating. Bare minimim- fruits & veggies! Add them in every meal if you can. Fruits & veggies help boost our immune system!
With the Quarantine I feel like we spend most of our time eating (and cooking and cleaning up). We normally shop every 5-7 days. It's been 6 days (not 10, like I say in the video), and we are low on fresh produce & the "grab & go" items we prefer. So we are digging through our pantry stash to see if we can push through and make it to 14 days...or at least 10...
We made a little video for you about our pantry staples... And below I'll link some of the recipes we used!
What are your pantry staples, and what have you been cooking up in your kitchen lately? Give us some fresh ideas! And some ideas for canned salmon!
- Kodiak Cakes
- Canned tuna, chicken & salmon
- Canned veggies (beans & corn)
- Canned peaches
- Oats (Quick Oats & Rolled Oats)
- Enchilada sauce (or can use marinara)
- Flour Tortillas
- Nuts (Almonds & Walnuts)
- Olive Oil, Coconut Oil
- 21 Seasoning
- Baking Items (brown sugar, chocolate chips, cinnamon, vanilla, etc)
- Frozen berries, bananas, and veggies
Would Also Like to Have:
- Flour, Yeast
- Various beans (black, pinto, refried)
- Chia seeds
2. Creamy Chicken Spaghetti (This is where I used canned chicken!)
Meal prepping with the help of an almost 4 year old and a 1 1/2 year old isn't necessarily easy, but it was the most productive thing we could do together today, when all they wanted was my attention! It really just requires a little extra patience and a little extra clean up. Overall it's a big win, because we are all entertained and we all have food and snacks to enjoy.
