#MemberCrushMonday: Amanda McDowell
Here is her story:
"I think I am basic. I live for my family and friends! I work for a company called Three Phase Electric; I am a PM in training and coming up on my 6th year with this company but have known them for 30+ years. I went to Jr School and HS with the owners/Co-Owners.
My hobbies are my husband, kiddos and our 2 furbabies Moose and Wilda (basically it’s their world and I just live in it😊). I love adventure and pretty much up for anything outdoors- but no flying, feet on the ground for this girl. The last few years I have really enjoyed trail running and I love to run with a group called Vacation Races. They basically run races at all the National Parks! My next race Adventure will be coming up in May for Yosemite! And my best human Elizabeth who is also a member of Chuckwalla will be my crew/driver😊 because we love to adventure together #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
How long have you been at Chuckwalla Fitness?
I joined Chuckwalla I believe July of 2016 as Chuckwalla was about ½ way into their first year of opening. I took a 10 month “Timeout” and realized I need my Village. I came back in 2019 and my husband told me I was never allowed to leave!
What got you started and why do you keep showing up?
My brother and Chuckwalla got me to where I am today. Stared with a Payson Mud run in June of 2016, then turned into an advertisement of John and Chuckwalla. Ashley greeted my daughter Ava and I and felt right at home.
How has Chuckwalla Fitness impacted your life?
It helps me to pick and choose my battles, to make better choices in my personal and my social life. Plus, all the amazing people that are they and I have met, that’s an impact itself!
How do you apply your fitness/what you learn through fitness to your life outside of our box?
I have learned how to read labels and count MACROS. I have learned how to challenge myself and my body.
How do you stay motivated or disciplined?
This can get tricky, so for me I must stay within my people, surround myself with the people that make good choices. It is always a mind over matter for me. "Do you want it Amanda, Yes, I want! So, I will!" Does it always work, Nah I am human? I Just start again. My discipline to myself and others is adult time out.
What is one of your favorite motivational quotes?
"Stay in your own lane!"
What are your current fitness goals?
To show up more and to participate in more action.
What fitness accomplishment are you most proud of?
Push up, and not on my knees anymore. Now, there is no way on earth that I can handle all of them when it is time for Murphy.
Do you have any favorite memories from Chuckwalla Fitness?
It was after Chuckwalla’s first birthday; I knew Chuckwalla was for me and I bought my first pair of Reebok Nano shoes!
What is your advice for a new Crossfitter or someone trying to get back into shape?
Focus on yourself, it is fun to watch others push and build strength but run your own race. Learning the movements to me is better than trying to compete with the others.
