What do you do with your time, for work, play, etc?
In this season of my life, a lot of my time is spent running. Running around after our four mini mighty men (6, 4, 2, and 5 Months). Running marketing for our adventure motorcycle rental business (Beyond Adventure) and running operations for our event planning business (Together). To get some quiet, I love to run for fun in the early morning stillness, if I’m not doing a Chuckwalla class that day! 😉
What is something about you that would surprise us?
One of my most memorable runs was when I was interning in Washington, DC. I wanted to meet as many people as possible and learn from them. One of my friends was a staffer in Senator Chuck Grassley’s (Iowa) office. As a way to connect with constituents, Senator Grassley allowed people to run with him in the mornings and then sit at his kitchen table afterward and eat oatmeal with him and his wife (detail included). So I put my name on the list and one day I got a call saying I could run with Senator Grassley in the morning at 5:30 am. I did and ate oatmeal at his and Mrs Grassley’s kitchen table. It reminded me of running with my dad in the mornings in high school.
How do you make a difference in the community?
I make a difference in the community by looking around at the circles that my husband and I are in and praying that God would involve us in His work where He has us. Sometimes it’s taking homemade treats to our neighbors or asking for help from friends. Sometimes it’s offering to fix something broken, or playing the piano with our front door open so it’s a blessing not only to my family but anyone in the area.
Why do you choose to workout at Chuckwalla?
Because there are no mirrors. No joke!
I’ve always avoided gyms because of the magnified focus on physical perfection. At Chuckwalla the focus is not on perfection, or biggest, fastest, strongest. What I hear from the coaches is encouragement about “what’s your goal?” And if it’s like me, healing well and gaining strength after the birth of our fourth son, there’s space and grace for that.
How does Chuckwalla help you be strong for life?
It gives me a rhythmic time to practice with friendly and safe accountability. What I need in pretty much every sphere of life.
What is your favorite lift/workout?
Anything that involves rowing and running!
