What do you do with your time, for work, play, etc?

I moved to Phoenix from South Florida about a year ago for work. I had only been to Phoenix once and had never lived in this part of the country, so I figured why not give it a try. I live with my partner and our two cats, and we’ve spent the past year exploring Arizona and all it has to offer. A few months after we got here, we bought a travel trailer and have taken it out on many camping trips which we really enjoy. I work for the U.S. Department of Commerce, my agency works with companies to help them

identify buyers and distributors in other countries. I’ve worked for the same agency for 15 years and feel very lucky to have a job I really love and enjoy. I love to travel and have been to 45 countries so far and can’t wait to keep adding more to the list.

Skiing is one of my favorite winter pastimes and I’m always looking for friends to go skiing with. I really used to enjoy running until I tore my ACL (yes, I tore it skiing), now I can barely run a couple miles before my knee starts telling me to stop. I’ve done several Spartan races and am really looking forward to doing one in Arizona. I also like playing ping pong and want to get into mountain biking.

What is something about you that would surprise us?

I went to culinary school to be a pastry chef, that career didn’t pan out.

How do you make a difference in the community?

My daily job is about helping the community. Working with AZ companies to expand their sales into other countries helps them grow which translates into more jobs for the community and a more stable U.S. economy.

Why do you choose to workout at Chuckwalla?

When I first arrived in Arizona most CrossFit gyms were closed. Once everything began to re-open, I started following a few on social media to see what kind of programing they had and how they interacted with their members. I have to say Chuckwalla outperformed everyone. I really enjoy the programing and monthly challenges, it helps keep things interesting and gives me something to look forward to. I really appreciate John always taking the time to offer suggestions on how to improve and ensuring we’re keeping proper form and technique.

How does Chuckwalla help you be strong for life?

I’ve never enjoyed lifting weights. I would rather go out for a run or do some outdoor activity. Chuckwalla helps me train and do things I wouldn’t otherwise do. It often pushes me out of my comfort zone. I like to workout early in the mornings, it’s a great way to start your day.

What is your favorite lift/workout?

I can’t say I have a favorite, but I can say I really dislike overhead squats.
