Our #MemberCrushMonday is on Megan Tranter, a woman who super inspiring to me as she serves and protects our local Phoenix community and I look up to her as one of our strong ladies at Chuckwalla CrossFit.
Here is her story:
"I was born and raised in Tempe, Arizona. Throughout high school I played volleyball and I was a jumper on the track team. I received a full ride volleyball scholarship to Boise State. I graduated and moved back to Phoenix and was hired by the Phoenix Fire Department. I have been a firefighter paramedic for about 12 years. I met my husband Adam, who is also a firefighter and we have 2 kids. We also have 2 FEMA Search and Rescue Labrador’s that Adam handles.
I started Crossfit because it was very similar to my collegiate training and crossed over to firefighting. I even coached a little before having kids. Crossfit is so important to me because it brings equality to the weight room, specifically for women. We need our girls and boys to see us as strong, capable women. We empower our girls by competing with each other, and showing them women can actually win. Often outperforming men.
I also consider myself a compassionate crossfitter. I went from having a 4:52 Fran Time to barely stringing together 2 pull-ups. I can still clean 170lbs but wall balls are out of the question because my knees swell up. We expect so much from ourselves but I have learned to be realistic. So I feel ya when it just feels like too much. I still feel like that. A lot."
