#MemberCrushMonday: Quentin Orem
"Hey everyone! I’m brand new to Chuckwalla, and I’ve been blown away by the support in this community. To be honest, I was a little nervous about showing up to my first day of CrossFit. I’m an avid runner but I haven’t picked up a weight in ages. However, the coaches and my fellow cross-fitters always go out of their way to help my learn the movements, they scream at me when I’m struggling to finish a WOD, and they seem generally interested in each other’s lives. So, I’m hooked.
I teach at Brophy College Preparatory, an all-boys high school in central Phoenix. It’s been a thoroughly joyful four years of teaching thus far. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, BBQ'ing with friends, playing guitar, and running. I’ve got two great dogs - Maisie and Bucky. Seattle is my hometown, and as much as I’m grateful for life in Phoenix, I know it’s only a matter of time until I find my way back to the Pacific Northwest.
I’ve got a good college buddy, Chris, who has really gotten into CrossFit in the last few years. He was my inspiration to join. He was never pushy, but he extolled the values of an approach to fitness that includes strength, endurance, and mobility/flexibility. My dream and current goal is to run R2R2R in the Grand Canyon. But I had hit a wall with my running training. Incorporating strength training is already paying dividends for my running.
I’ve got not social media, but I look forward to meeting you in person at our next WOD!"
