#MemberCrushMonday: Lauren Koemans
Here is her story:
This week we are following up with an older member and previous Member Crush (as well as gym manager and coach!), Lauren Koemans. Here is what she has to say about her time at Chuckwalla since she first started:
How long have you been at Chuckwalla CrossFit?
I have been at Chuckwalla CrossFit for about 3 1/2 years.
What got you started and why do you keep showing up?
When I played basketball my freshman year of college (2010), our coach had us do a few CrossFit classes. I was immediately hooked by the intensity and challenge, and knew I wanted to get back to it someday. It took me until 2013, when we were living in Las Vegas, but I finally made it into a CrossFit again. A year later I took my CF-L1 and began coaching on the side. I am thankful for first CrossFit home, CrossFit 2 Serve, owned by Derek Del Rosario, and the way they launched me into CrossFit as a coach and athlete. I had no idea it would take me to where I am today, at Chuckwalla CrossFit.
The community, daily challenge, and satisfaction of growing stronger, keeps me showing up. Having a challenging workout planned for me that I can just show up and do is probably the only reason why I workout. Being able to go through workouts in a community of like-minded people holds me accountable, encourages me, and continually challenges me.
How has Chuckwalla CrossFit impacted your life?
Chuckwalla CrossFit has brought me opportunities I never expected. I have grown physically, mentally, and professionally. To have a place that encourages growth and supports me through all seasons of life is something I'm thankful for every day. Chuckwalla has given me the support to be a better wife, mom, and coach. And the physical strength that has come with CrossFit is something I use every day, lifting, carrying, and chasing 2 toddler boys.
How do you apply what happens inside the gym to everyday life outside of our box?
I love how the physical challenge of CrossFit is just a training ground for the demands of life. We are growing our ability to do hard things, to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. I now have tools to help me get through any daily challenge. I am physically more capable and mentally growing stronger.
